Are you like I was a few weeks ago, and asking ‘Who is Chill Moody??’ If so, hunny, let me tell you! Chill Moody is a legend in the making! Real spit! And quite literally. Chill Moody is a well respected Hip Hop artist from West Philadelphia, known for BARSSS, and his undeniable love for his city. He’s an extraordinary lyricist that can contend with the greatest of them. I’m talking Nas, Lupe, Siegal, Freeway, Budden, Black Thought. His rhymes tell a story of growing up in West Philly and navigating and circumventing the ills and trappings of the inner city. They also document his journey in the rap game and overcoming personal, industry, and societal obstacles to get to that #1 world spot, all while staying rooted to his beloved Philly.
Listening to any of Chill Moody’s albums feels like a reading of The Alchemist, with much more layered and sophisticated word play. You’re captivated by the storytelling, collecting gems of wisdom along the way (if you’re lucky enough to catch them), but most of all you’re stirred up and inspired to pursue your own dreams. The way Chill is able to flow over a beat, through a beat, speed it up, slow it down, without missing a beat, you feel like you’ve got the confidence and ability to approach your own obstacles with the same finesse and prowess. At least that’s how I feel listening to Chill Moody lol.
What’s more remarkable about Chill Moody is that it seems rap is the least of who he is and what he does. This man literally has his hand in everything! He holds the keys to the city when it comes to art and entertainment. Not only is he Philadelphia’s Music Ambassador, he’s also known for putting on dope festivals and music stages that bring out Philly’s finest music talent, and up and coming artists alike. All under his nicethings lifestyle brand. “nicethings will be worldwide in 10 years. I see big things for me and my brand in this next decade.”
Like many artists, he has his own label, nicethingsMUSIC, which signs a diverse roster of up and coming Philly artists. He also has a fresh line of apparel that includes socks, watches, and tees. While these things might be common, Moody also has some uncommon partnerships that yield him his own nicethings New Balance sneaker, which he often sports on the green, and his own Dockstreet craft beer, nicethings beer. If you’re feeling the whole nicethings vibe and want to boss up your own brand, he also offers brand consultation. Did I mention this man has his hand in everything?? Lol
“nicethings will be a household name. Like Ralph Lauren, Anheuser-Busch, Wu-Tang Clan.”
In addition to being a walking empire this man has a heart for his community that is arguably unmatched. In between putting on for his city, with live and energy filled performances, he takes time to organize clean up missions and donate fresh produce to families around Philly. He says it’s just how he was raised.
“Growing up, people on my block looked out for one another.”
Right now, he’s working with the Big Clean Up Philly, a community service project that has a tour underway, with the goal to clean up Philly “one hood at a time.” The last Sunday of every month he and the Big Clean Up call on the community to come out, BYO(broom) and get to work. Moody not only raps about it, he is about it. “What you hear is the real me, in the rawest form. I put all of myself in my music.” With songs like This Ain’t My America, We’re Worth More, Change Coming, Chill is proving that he has a vision for the world and the heart to bring it to fruition. I salute this king. The rap game, and the world itself needs more men like Moody!
Check him out, Beauties, and let me know if you’re just as impressed as I am. You can find his music on all streaming platforms. He releases new music every #MoodyMonday. Below are a few of the songs that really spoke to me. And might help you start your journey into the Legendary mind of Chill Moody.
